My Opinion On Teaching Style Essay - 1837 Words
My biggest issue with the way that most English classes are taught, not only in college, but at all education levels is that they donââ¬â¢t necessarily teach people how to write. Rather, they teach the students how other people have written. I came into this class hoping that maybe I would receive the opportunity to write my own fiction writing, which maybe does not interest the majority of students, but for me is something I looked forward to as someone who considered himself to be full of at least some worthwhile ideas. This semester was interesting and educational but not entirely my ideal learning choice. Maybe creative writing is the better path to take for dreams like mine, but that is not the point of this paper. The unit that I found the most lacking that I think could benefit the most from this teaching style that I have in my brain is definitely the third, Setting and Symbol. I picked this because of the large amount of potential to be found with those two words. Setting is often what draws people in. Sure a round character or two sprinkled into a book will net you a few people reading, but a fully immersive setting and engrossing world will draw people in for decades. If you donââ¬â¢t believe me, see Harry Potter for inspiration. Whereas a strong symbol can be used to communicate meaning in ways that no other form of idea transferring device can. If you find yourself in a debate with someone over anything often it is difficult to win and sway them to your view, however ifShow MoreRelatedMy Teaching Style And Classroom Discipline Methods921 Words à |à 4 PagesI was very excited to take both of these ââ¬Å"testsâ⬠to find out what my teaching style and classroom discipline methods were. In an ideal world, I would like to think that I teach using all of these ââ¬Å"personalitiesâ⬠at different times. At the close of this semester, I now understand the terminology ââ¬Å"writing across the curriculumâ⬠, and how I can implement it in my own classroom. In my opinion, the main reason why ââ¬Å"how we learn is as important as what we learnâ⬠is the fact that teaching can be biased or influenced based on the presentersââ¬â¢ opinion or teaching method.
